PARKING TASK FORCE
In 2025, the City Council formed a Parking Task Force to review the 2021 Parking Assessment and evaluate which recommendations have been implemented and which remain to be addressed. This initiative was prompted by ongoing parking-related concerns within the community, as well as parking goals identified in the developing Leadville/Lake County Comprehensive Plan.
The Parking Task Force includes representatives from local businesses, residents from the first 100 blocks off Harrison Avenue, and both City and County representatives. This group was created to provide thoughtful community input and to help review potential strategies in a balanced and informed way.
The 2021 Parking Assessment identified several strategies aimed at increasing parking capacity and improving parking management. At the time of review, the only strategy implemented was the addition of diagonal striping on certain streets, which created additional parking spaces near Harrison Avenue.
The Parking Task Force serves in an advisory capacity only. It does not have the authority to make decisions or implement projects. Final decisions remain with the City Council and City staff.
For certain parking issues, multiple potential solutions may exist. When options could significantly impact residents, businesses, or visitors, the City Council is committed to carefully evaluating those options and seeking meaningful public input before making any decisions.
This work is deliberate and thoughtful. At this time, there are no parking changes planned for the near future.
ASSET MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE
In 2026, the City Council formed an Asset Management Task Force and charged it with the following scope of work: to inventory City-owned assets (buildings, land, infrastructure), compile operating costs, revenues (if any), and funding sources associated with each asset, perform a high-level condition assessment, and identify an asset strategy and level of service expectation.
The Asset Management Task Force serves in an advisory capacity only. It does not have the authority to make decisions or implement projects. Final decisions remain with the City Council and City staff.
